Therapy for Grief and Loss

Grief and loss will happen to all of us. It can be like a broken mirror that can’t be put back together, a tidal wave of pain and emptiness, or a wound that never quite heals.  There is no going back to the times before. Instead, it is about finding a way to adjust to the new reality.

There are many types of grief including death, the end of a relationship, job loss, adjustment to chronic illness, identify shifts, and infertility. Often, people came to therapy specifically for grief. Other times, people learn in the therapy process that they are experiencing grief.

Treating grief is about attending to your mind, body, and spirit. We start with getting through the day. We’ll work on managing and accept intense feelings in the moment and taking care of your basic needs.

Next, we will focus on a more sustainable self-care routine. This may include exercise, mindfulness, journaling, and connecting with others. We’ll also focus on developing meaning from the loss and considering what you want this next chapter to be like.  Grief therapy involves many approaches like mindfulness, improved thinking strategies, or Acceptance Commitment Therapy.

Whatever brings you here, I am ready to support you on your journey.
