Aging
Aging can be a challenging experience. As we go through this ongoing transition, we have much to offer and much that may overwhelm us. Perhaps you are dealing with grief over losing loved ones. Maybe you are struggling with your health. Perhaps, you are feeling lonely and isolated.
What you also have is experience and wisdom you can tap into to help yourself and others.
If you’re here to cope with the emotional effects of aging, we will start with examining your day-to-day life. What is working? What isn’t? We’ll discuss your self-care, hobbies, and social connections. I will also bring in strategies to cope with difficult thoughts and emotions.
Next, we’ll look at your life and goals more broadly. Approaches we might use include Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) mindfulness, and Internal Family Systems (IFS). With ACT, we’ll look at what is most important to you at this stage of your life (your values), and set goals that are aligned with those values. ACT techniques and mindfulness can also be useful to accept and cope with difficult thoughts and feelings. IFS can help identify and work with difficult aspects of yourself to promote self-compassion and calm your nervous system.
If you need support at this stage of your life, schedule a free 15-minute consultation where we can discuss your needs.
